FanGirl Vocabulary for the Uninitiated

Beta: those angels who keep fan fiction grammatical and logical; also a verb describing the above action

Cookies: tasty, incorporeal treats given in gratitude to fangirl creators, including ficcers, vidders, and icon-makers; also given by fangirl creator to helpful betas

Melt: a slow slide to the floor caused by warm, gooshy feeling of fan love for some fan-object; can also be induced by particularly good fan creations

Ngh: a nonverbal sound communicating the halting of coherent thought in fangirl’s mind due to the object of her obsessions; see also guh, gah, bah , and eek

Puddle: the fangirl’s state of being after a melt (see above) or occasionally a thud (see below)

Squee: another nonverbal sound; this high-pitched squeal communicates joyful excitement, which is slightly more lucid than ngh

Thud: the sudden attack of gravity caused by encountering a particularly juicy isotope of your favorite character; the feeling that you ought to fall to the ground and give praise

Thudworthy: the state of being thud-inducing; causing happy fannish feelings

Rufflable: a quality describing a fan-object’s hair, implying that the fangirl is itching to run her hands through the fan-object's hair and tousle it into an absolutely charming mess; not exclusive of scruffy; see also Daniel Jackson, Tenth Doctor, and Han Solo
